Terminal Block vs Connector: Functions and Where They Overlap

“Terminal block” and “connector” are overlapping terms. A terminal block provides defined points for securing and connecting conductors. Connector is a broader term for components that make electrical connections; many connectors are designed as mating pairs. A pluggable terminal block combines wire termination with a separable connection.
Ask which interface needs to open

A fixed terminal can be serviceable even though it does not unplug. A connector may provide a separable interface without accepting bare field wires. Describing the required action is more useful than arguing over the label.
Compare fixed and pluggable Antong products
SP003 U-type screw strips are an example of fixed wire termination. Servicing a wire involves operating its screw clamp according to the product instructions.
Antong SP010 and SP011 add a male-and-female mating interface while retaining screw wire terminations. The harness can remain terminated when the compatible halves are separated. Each half and the complete pair still require the correct model selection.
Neither the word “connector” nor “pluggable” establishes that the product is mounted on a PCB. SP010/SP011 catalogue entries describe screw terminal strips, not a documented PCB plug-and-header footprint.
What a separable interface adds
A mating pair introduces questions about orientation, engagement, retention, access and service cycles. If coding or locking is required, confirm it exists on the selected version. A matching color or nominal spacing does not make different manufacturers’ parts compatible.
The interface must also suit the way the equipment will be serviced. Unless the component has a documented load-breaking capability for the application, treat disconnection as an isolated maintenance operation rather than a switching function.
What both choices still need
- The correct conductor size, material and preparation.
- Electrical ratings appropriate to the circuit and stated operating conditions.
- Adequate mechanical support and cable routing.
- A clear circuit identification scheme.
- The installation instructions and model-specific approval evidence required by the project.
For a pluggable product, check both the wire clamp and the mating connection. For a fixed strip, check the conductor access and the time required to re-terminate during service. Compare the total assembly and service process instead of assuming every plug is faster in every enclosure.
Write a functional enquiry
A useful enquiry says, for example: “We need a removable four-circuit harness connection, with these conductors, this load, this mounting space and this service access.” It is more precise than asking for a “better connector.”
